How To Release Stress Through Breathing – 3 Simple Steps To Reduce Stress With Breath
The “breath” has been used for many hundreds of years to control tension, stress and anxiety – and more recently commonly used within hypnosis, meditation and activities such as yoga or Pilates.
Breathing can help you calm your nerves before that important meeting or simply de-stress just before walking in the door, it doesn’t matter where, when or who you’re with, it’s as simple as one, two, three.
So how does it help? Conscious breathing brings your awareness back to the present moment, with our busy lives taking up valuable working memory we can become overloaded with so much information that relaxation isn’t possible by default – therefore we have to provide our mind that little extra help to get going.
If you’re struggling to get relaxed then follow these three simple but highly effective steps.
3 Simple Steps To Reduce Stress With Breath:
How To Release Stress Through Breathing Step 1 – Close your eyes, place either hand over your heart and bring your awareness to the rise and fall of your chest. Feel the heart beating and your shoulders relaxing as you breathe.
How To Release Stress Through Breathing Step 2 – When you have taken several breaths, increase your lung capacity on the next five breaths to 70%, hold for just a second longer than you usually would, then release.
How To Release Stress Through Breathing Step 3 – Return your awareness back to your breath and imagine a enlightening past memory, see everything you would have seen, smell what you would have smelt, feel what you would have felt and hear what you would have heard. Take a further five breaths and then open your eyes.
Synchronising your heart and mind has immediate benefits in relieving stress.
